Memorial Event 2024

Oct 26 on Mt Lemmon, AZ

The first celebration of Mariel’s life will be at one of her favorite places growing up. It’s Mariel’s Birthday this weekend on October 26. She would have turned 33.

We will be gathering for an open house between 11-3 at the Perrine Family Cabin. There will be drinks and food, and an Ofrenda Table with Mariel’s urn, flowers, photos and items she loved. We will share memories and take walks to Sunset Rock where there is a beautiful view down the mountain where you can say a prayer to Mariel. She loved this place–her Mom and Dad brought her to the cabin as a child where she dug up flowers and played in the forest. The area is alive with birdsong. It might be a bit cold, though, so folks who are coming should be prepared. Beth and I may give remarks when most people are around, but we wanted it to be flexible and easy for people to come sometime in the window between 11-3. Dress code is casual. Mariel loved jeans; those joining us are welcome to wear them. Parking is limited, so folks who are coming are encouraged to carpool. The walk from the parking lot to the cabin is a little uneven but fairly short and manageable. We will be there to guide you to the cabin from the parking lot.

All are welcome, but please don’t feel pressured to come if you cannot make it. This won’t be the last time we celebrate Mariel. We are working on a memorial website. We think it will be called Marielnowandforever.com. It will have photos and memories. Anyone can send me a memory of Mariel and I will add it to the website. In this way, we can all have a permanent place to go and remember her, share memories, and share photos. Some of the younger cousins may find it helpful someday when they’re older to be able to see a little bit about what Mariel was like. I will let you know when the website is up. Please send memories to me at this email address and I will make sure they are added to the site. We will probably read them, and I will take photos at the memorial this weekend.

You can also click on either of these buttons to start navigation via Apple Maps or Google Maps. You should start navigation while in Tucson, not on the mountain, as there is very little service on the drive until you reach the parking area. Your navigation will still work with no service, just start it before you get to the mountain.
