Oct 26 on Mt Lemmon, AZ

The first celebration of Mariel’s life was held at one of her favorite places growing up. It was on Mariel’s Birthday, October 26, 2024. She would have turned 33.

We gathered for an open house between 11-3 at the Perrine Family Cabin. There were drinks and food, and an Ofrenda Table with Mariel’s urn, flowers, photos, and items she loved. We shared memories and took walks to Sunset Rock, where there was a beautiful view down the mountain where people could say a prayer to Mariel. She loved that place—her mom and dad had brought her to the cabin as a child, where she dug up flowers and played in the forest. The area was alive with birdsong. It was a bit cold, though, so those who came had to be prepared. Beth and I gave remarks when most people were around, but we wanted it to be flexible and easy for people to come sometime during the window between 11-3. The dress code was casual.
